Notice:
This site has successfully transitioned the image data source from GOES-16 to
GOES-19. There are some remaining anomalies in the production of mesoscale
geocolor images which are being investigated. Everything else should be operating
as expected. Please contact:
NESDIS.STAR.webmaster@noaa.gov if you have any questions.

2.2 µm - "Cloud Particle Size" Band - 2 km resolution - in conjunction with other bands, Band 6 will enable cloud particle size estimation. Cloud particle growth is an indication of cloud development and intensity of that development. Other applications include: use in aerosol particle size estimation, cloud screening, hot-spot detection, and snow detection.
Band 6 is a visible channel and is therefore black during nighttime hours.
